- In January 2024 and October 2026, Tesla said its Texas Cybertruck line could build more than 125,000 trucks a year. The January update noted that installed capacity is not the current production rate.
- Tesla doesn't count Cybertrucks on their own. Every vehicle Tesla counted outside the Model 3 and Model Y came to 94,105 in 2024 and 53,900 in 2025, the Model S and X included.
- So in no year did the truck reach its line's size. At the third quarter's pace, 7,004, a full year is about 28,000, even if all were Cybertrucks.
- Musk said production will wind down to make room for more Cybercab, Tesla's robotaxi. Electrek's editor, Fred Lambert, wrote that the explanation "doesn't hold up."
- Tesla's October report lists the Cybercab line in Texas at the same size, more than 125,000 a year. Whether the truck will be built elsewhere is unclear, electrive reported.

How far short the truck ran

How we got these numbers
- Musk's post is quoted as Electrek, electrive.com and AutoGuide printed it, word for word the same in all three; X's own page was not readable to us without signing in. Electrek gives the post's address as x.com/elonmusk/status/2118591788701421573.
- Capacity figures are Tesla's own, from the "installed annual capacity" tables in its shareholder updates of Jan. 24, 2024 (fourth quarter 2023) and Oct. 21, 2026 (third quarter 2026). Tesla says installed capacity is not the current production rate. The Oct. 18, 2023 update (third quarter 2023) lists the same >125,000 figure with the status "Pilot production". We checked those three updates, not every update in between.
- Tesla does not report Cybertruck production by itself. "Other models" production by quarter, from the Oct. 21 update: 11,624 (Q3 2025), 11,706 (Q4 2025), 13,775 (Q1 2026), 8,822 (Q2 2026) and 7,004 (Q3 2026), 52,931 in all, Model S and Model X included until their mid-2026 sunset. 7,004 times four is 28,016, which is 22.4% of 125,000, KeyVex's math. Other-models deliveries: 8,295 in Q3 2026 against 15,933 in Q3 2025, down 47.9%.
- Recall counts are NHTSA's potential units affected, not trucks built: 63,619 for campaign 25V699000 and 46,096 for 25V170000. Eleven NHTSA campaigns in KeyVex's recall data name the Cybertruck from Jan. 30, 2024 to April 21, 2026; nine name only the Cybertruck. Prices are as traded: TSLA closed at $385.19 on Nov. 4 and $343.69 on Nov. 5 (-10.8%); QQQ $691.95 and $647.05 (-6.5%).
- The comparison lines in the stock chart follow SPY (S&P 500) and QQQ (Nasdaq 100), as traded, rebased. The Filings switch shows the filing markers from KeyVex's Tesla stock page, a selection of congressional trades, insider sales, Form 144 notices, 8-Ks and lobbying filings: not every filing, and not only those tied to this story.
