  1. At June 30, the biggest part of Lucid's cushion was $1.98 billion its Saudi majority owner had agreed to lend but not yet lent. With cash and two other credit lines, it had $3.0 billion.
  2. In the first half, Lucid's business and capital spending used about $1.5 billion of cash a quarter. A company spending more than it brings in covers the gap with cash, borrowing or selling stock.
  3. Since June 30, Lucid has borrowed $1.6 billion of that line, leaving about $400 million. Borrowing moves money into the bank; it does not add to the $3.0 billion. Spending shrinks that total.
  4. In August, Lucid said its new financing and operating changes give it a runway "well into 2027." Its chief executive told CNBC it will need more capital "at some point," the site EV reported.
  5. Lucid reports third-quarter results on Nov. 9, the first numbers to show how much cash it used from July through September.

The draw: Lucid Group borrowed another $400 million on Oct. 6 from its majority owner, an affiliate of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, it disclosed after the market closed on Oct. 9.8-K8-K It was the fourth draw since April, for about $2.1 billion in all; about $400 million is left.8-K In April, the two sides enlarged the loan and removed a requirement that Lucid keep a minimum level of liquidity.8-K

Why it matters: At June 30, the money Lucid could still borrow on this loan, $1.98 billion, was the largest part of the $3.0 billion it counted as liquidity: cash and investments plus credit it had not used.10-Q8-K Borrowing moves money from the line into the bank, so it does not change that total. What it changes is how much Lucid can still take from this line: about $400 million.8-K

The cash: Lucid's free cash flow, its cash from operations minus capital spending, was about $1.44 billion negative in the first quarter and about $1.48 billion in the second.8-K8-K The second-quarter figure was the most of any quarter since the start of 2025.Data Lucid's quarterly report tied much of the first-half rise in cash used to higher inventory purchases as it ramped up production of its Gravity SUV.10-Q

Its words: In its Aug. 4 results, Lucid said recently secured financing, combined with ongoing operational measures, provides "sufficient liquidity runway well into 2027."8-K Its quarterly report, filed the same day, said its cash sources and projected operating cash flows would provide "adequate liquidity for at least the next 12 months."10-Q In August, chief executive Silvio Napoli told CNBC, "At some point, we will need more capital," the site EV (eletric-vehicles.com) reported.EV

The stock: The shares fell 9.4% on Oct. 12, the first session after the filing, to $3.435. That was their lowest close since Lucid listed in July 2021, adjusted for a 2025 reverse split. It was 67.5% below where they ended 2025.Chart data

How the loan was drawn down

The loan, from the Saudi fund's unit Ayar Third Investment Company, began in August 2024 as $750 million. It is unsecured and comes due on Aug. 4, 2029.8-K In November 2025 it grew to about $1.98 billion, and Lucid had not drawn a dollar.8-K10-Q

The first $500 million came out on April 1.8-K On April 14, the two sides added $500 million more, bringing the line to about $2.48 billion.10-Q That amendment "eliminated the minimum liquidity covenant," the requirement to keep a set level of liquidity. It also dropped a rule that Lucid first use up a separate credit line backed by its assets.8-K

That day the Saudi owner also agreed to buy $550 million of new convertible preferred stock. A unit of Uber agreed to buy $200 million of common stock. Lucid also raised about $291.5 million, after costs, in a stock sale underwritten by BofA Securities.8-K8-K

Then the draws came faster: $800 million on July 6, $400 million on Aug. 24 and $400 million on Oct. 6.8-K8-K8-K At June 30 the interest rate on what Lucid had borrowed was 9.54%.10-Q

How we got these numbers

  • Prices are end-of-day closes as traded, not adjusted for dividends, and adjusted for Lucid's 1-for-10 reverse split of September 2025: closes before Sept. 2, 2025 are multiplied by 10. The Oct. 12 close of $3.435 is 9.4% below the Oct. 9 close of $3.79 and 67.5% below the Dec. 31, 2025 close of $10.57. "Lowest close since Lucid listed" compares every close from July 26, 2021, Lucid's first day as LCID, through Oct. 12, 2026. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 lines follow SPY and QQQ, also as traded, rebased to Lucid's close at the start of the range shown. The Filings switch shows the filing markers from KeyVex's Lucid stock page, a selection of congressional trades, insider trades, Form 144 notices, 8-Ks and lobbying filings: not every filing, and not only those tied to this story.
  • Free cash flow is Lucid's own non-GAAP measure: net cash used in operating activities less capital expenditures, as reconciled in each quarterly release. The quarters are $589.9 million, $1,012.9 million, $955.5 million and $1,241.8 million out in 2025 (summing to the $3,800.1 million in the full-year release) and $1,438.8 million and $1,476.1 million in the first two quarters of 2026 (summing to the $2,914.9 million first-half figure). "About $1.5 billion a quarter" is their average, $1.46 billion, rounded.
  • Liquidity at June 30, 2026 is Lucid's own figure: $775.5 million of cash, cash equivalents and investments, plus $1.98 billion unused on the Saudi loan, $270.4 million on its asset-based credit line and $2.3 million on a Gulf International Bank facility. The $1.6 billion drawn since June 30 is the sum of the July 6, Aug. 24 and Oct. 6 draws. Lucid has not yet reported its cash or liquidity at Sept. 30.
  • The loan's size is given as about $2.5 billion in Lucid's April 14 Form 8-K and about $2.48 billion in its 10-Q; the draws total about $2.1 billion, and Lucid's Oct. 9 filing puts the unused part at about $400 million.
